To do this, when you create in Adobe Illustrator in the "Save Options in Illustrator format" against the item "Create PDF-compatible file" must be ticked. If the object is created with a check mark, then the photoshop will not be able to proceed correctly and display.

1. So, run Photoshop. As in the previously specified method, click "File" and "Open".

   But in Photoshop there is another opening method that is not available in Adobe Illustrator. It consists in tugging from the "Explorer" of the graphic object in the application shell.



3. The use of any of these two options will cause activation of the "Import PDF" window. Here on the right side of the window, if you wish, you can also set the following parameters:
   • Smoothing;
   • Image size;
   • Proportions;
   • Permission;
   • Color mode;
   • Bit depth and others.

4. After that, the AI ​​image will appear in the photoshop shell.

Method 3: GIMP

Another graphic editor that can open AI is GIMP. Like Photoshop, it works only with those objects with the specified extension that were saved as a PDF-compatible file.

1. Open GIMP. Click "File". In the list, select "Open".



2. The shell of the opening tool is launched. In the field of format types, the "All Images" parameter is specified. But you will definitely open this field and select "All Files". Otherwise, AI objects in the window are not displayed. Next, find the place of storing the desired element. Having select it, click "Open".



3. The "Import PDF" window is launched. Here, if desired, you can change the height, width and resolution of the image, as well as the use of smoothing. However, these settings cannot be changed at all. You can leave them as it is and just click "Import."



4. After that, the contents of the AI ​​will appear in the GIMP.

The advantage of this method in front of the two previous things is that, unlike Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, GIMP application is completely free.

Method 4: Acrobat Reader

Although the main feature of the Acrobat Reader application is reading PDF, however, it can also open AI objects, if they have been saved as a PDF-compatible file.

1. Run Acrobat Reader. Click "File" and "Open". You can also press Ctrl + O.



2. The opening window will appear. Find the location of the AI. To display it in the window, in the field of format type, change the value "Adobe PDF files" to the "All Files" item. After the AI ​​appears, check it and click "Open".



3. Content will be displayed in Acrobat Reader in a new tab.

Method 5: Sumatrapdf

Another program, the main task of which are manipulations with PDF format, but can also open AI if these objects have been saved as a PDF-compatible file, is Sumatrapdf.

1. Run the PDF Sumatra. Click on the "Open Document ..." or use Ctrl + O.

   If you prefer to act through the menu, although it is less convenient than using the two options described above, then in this case, click "File" and "Open".

3. AI will be opened in Sumatrapdf.
