As you know, each network device has its own physical address, which is constant and unique. Due to the fact that the MAC address acts as an identifier, you can learn the manufacturer of this equipment according to this code. The task is carried out by different methods and only the Mac's knowledge is required from the user, it is them that we would have wanted to discuss within this article.
Determine the manufacturer by the MAC address
Today we will consider two methods for finding the manufacturer of equipment through the physical address. Immediately, we note that the work of such a search is available only because each more or less large equipment developer makes identifiers to the database. The funds we use will scan this database and display the manufacturer if it is, of course, will be possible. Let's focus on each method in more detail.Method 1: NMAP Program
Open software called NMAP has a large number of tools and features that allow network analysis, show connected devices and define protocols. Now we will not deepen into the functionality of this software, since NMAP is not sharpened under a regular user, and consider only one scan mode, which allows you to detect the device developer.

- Go to the NMAP website and download the last stable version from there for your operating system.
- Complete the standard installation procedure.
- After the installation is completed, run ZenMap - the NMAP version with the graphical interface. In the "Purpose" field, specify your network address or equipment address. Usually, the network address is 192.168.1.1, if any changes have been made by the provider or user.
- In the "Profile" field, select Regular Scan mode and run the analysis.
- It will take several seconds, and then the result of the scanning will appear. Lay out the Mac Address line, where the manufacturer will be displayed in brackets.
If the scan does not bring any result, carefully check the correctness of the IP address entered, as well as its activity on your network.
Initially, the NMAP program did not have a graphical interface and worked through the classic Windows application "Command Line". Consider such a network scanning procedure:
- Open the "Run" utility, type CMD there, and then click on "OK".
- In the console, we write the NMAP command 192.168.1.1, where instead of 192.168.1.1, specify the necessary IP address. After that, press the ENTER key.
- It will happen exactly the same analysis as in the first case when using the GUI, but now the result will appear in the console.
