The sitemap.xml file contains links to pages and fairly detailed information that includes data on the last update of the pages, about the update frequency, about the priority of a page over others.
If there is a map on the site, then search engine robots will not need to wander through the resource pages and record the necessary information on your own, just take the finished structure and use it for indexing.
Resources for creating a site map online
You can create a map manually either using specialized software. If you are the owner of a small site, on which no more than 500 pages, you can use one of the online services for free, and we will tell about them below.Method 1: My Site Map Generator

From the user you only need to specify a link to the resource, wait for the end of the procedure and download the finished file. It is possible to work with the site for free, but only if the number of pages does not exceed 500 pieces. If the site has a greater volume - you have to purchase a paid subscription.

- We go to the section "Sitemap generator" and select "Sitemap for free."
- Enter the address of the resource, the email address (if there is no time to wait for the result on the site), check code and click on the "Start" button.
- If necessary, specify additional settings.
- The scan process begins.
- After the scan is completed, the resource will automatically be the map and prompt the user to download it in XML format.
- If you specified email, the site map file will be shipped there.
The finished file can be opened for viewing in any browser. It is loaded into the root directory, after which the resource and card are added to Google Webmaster services and Yandex Webmaster, it remains only to wait for the indexing process.
Method 2: Majento
Like the previous resource, Majento is able to work for free with 500 pages. At the same time, users can request only 5 cards per day from one IP address. - Go to Majento and specify additional parameters for the future site map.
- Indicate the verification code that protects against automatic generation of cards.
- Specify a link to the resource for which you want to create a map, and click on the "Create SiteMap.xml" button.
- The resource scanning process will begin if there are more than 500 pages on your site, the map is incomplete.
- After the process is completed, the scan information will appear and will be offered to download the ready-made card.
Scanning pages takes a few seconds. It is not very convenient that the resource does not notify that not all pages were included in the map.
Method 3: Website Report
Sitemap - a necessary condition for promoting a resource on the Internet using search engines. Another Russian resource "Website Report" allows you to analyze your resource and make a map without additional skills. The main plus of the resource is the lack of restrictions on the number of scanned pages.

- Enter the address of the resource in the "Enter Name" field.
- Indicate additional scanning parameters, among which the date and frequency of updating pages, priority.
- We specify how many pages need to scan.
- Click on the "Generate Sitemap" button to start the resource check process.
- The process of generating a future card will begin.
- The created map will appear in a special window.
- You can download the result after clicking on the "Save XML file" button.
The service can scan up to 5000 pages, the process itself takes a few seconds, the finished document fully complies with all established standards and rules.
Online services for working with the site map are much more convenient to use than special software, however, in cases where you need to analyze a large number of pages, the advantage is better to pay the program method.
