Computer performance assessment on Windows 10

In Windows 7, all users could estimate the performance of their computer in different parameters, find out the assessment of the main components and output the final value. With the arrival of Windows 8, this feature was removed from the usual section of the system information, did not return it in Windows 10. Despite this, there are several ways to find out the assessment of its PC configuration.

The performance assessment allows you to quickly evaluate the effectiveness of your working machine and find out how well the software and hardware components interact. When checking, the speed of operation of each evaluated element is measured, and the points are exhibited, taking into account that 9.9 is the maximum possible indicator.

The final assessment is not average - it corresponds to the score of the slowest component. For example, if your hard disk works worst and gets estimated 4.2, then the general index will also be 4.2, despite the fact that all other components can get the indicator significantly higher.

Before starting the assessment of the system, it is better to close all the resource-intensive programs. This will provide correct results.

Method 1: Special utility

Since the previous performance estimation interface is not available, the user who wants to get a visual result will have to resort to third-party software solutions. We will use the proven and secure Winaero Wei Tool from the domestic author. The utility does not have additional functions and does not need to be installed. After startup, you will receive a window with an interface close to the performance index embedd in Windows 7.

1. Download the archive and unpack it.



2. Run Wei.exe from the folder with unzipped files.



3. After a short wait, you will see a window with an assessment. If on Windows 10 this tool started earlier, then instead of waiting the last result will be displayed without waiting.



4. As can be seen from the description, the minimum possible score - 1.0, the maximum - 9.9. The utility, unfortunately, is not Russified, but the description does not require special knowledge from the user. Just in case we will provide the translation of each component:
   • "Processor" - processor. The assessment is based on the number of possible calculations per second.
   • "Memory (RAM)" - RAM. The assessment is similar to the previous one - for the number of memory access operations per second.
   • "Desktop Graphics" - graphics. The performance of the desktop is estimated (as a component of "graphics" as a whole, and not a narrow concept "desktop" with labels and wallpaper, as we used to understand).
   • "Graphics" - graphics for games. The performance of the video card and its parameters for games and work with 3D objects in particular is calculated.
   • "PRIMARY HARD DRIVE" - the main hard drive. The rate of data exchange with a system hard disk is determined. Additional connected HDDs are not taken into account.
5. Just below, you can see the start date of the last performance check, if ever did it earlier through this application or other method. In the screenshot below such a date is the test running through the command line, and which will be discussed in the following method of article.



6. On the right side there is a button for re-starting a check, requiring an administrator authority account. You can also run this program with administrator rights by clicking on the EXE file with the right mouse button and selecting the appropriate item from the context menu. Usually it makes sense only after replacing one of the components, otherwise you will get the same result as last time.

Method 2: PowerShell

The "dozen" still remains the opportunity to measure the performance of your PC and even with more detailed information, but this function is only available through PowerShell. There are two commands for it, allowing you to learn only the necessary information (results) and get full log about all procedures manufactured when measuring the index and digital values ​​of the velocities of each component. If you do not need to deal with the details of the check, limit the use of the first method of the article or receiving rapid results in PowerShell.

Only results

A quick and easy method of obtaining the same information as in the method 1, but in the form of a text report.

1. Open PowerShell with administrator rights by writing this name to "Start" or through an alternative menu, started by right-click.



2. Enter the Get-Ciminstance Win32_Winsat command and press ENTER.



3. The results here are as simple as possible and not even designated. More information about the principle of checking each of them is written in the method 1.

   

   • "CPUSCORE" - processor.
   • "D3DScore" - 3D graphics index, including games.
   • "DiskScore" - Evaluation of the system HDD.
   • "Graphicsscore" - graphics of T.N. desktop.
   • "MemoryScore" - an estimate of RAM.
   • "WINSPRLEVEL" is a general assessment of the system, measured by the lowest indicator.

   The remaining two parameters do not have much importance.

Detailed Log Testing

This option is the longest, but allows you to get the most detailed log file about the test, which will be useful to narrow the circle of people. For ordinary users, it will be useful here that the unit itself is estimated. By the way, you can run the same procedure in the "Command line".

1. Open the administrator rights tool convenient for you, mentioned slightly higher.
2. Enter the following command: WinSat Formal -restart Clean and press ENTER.



3. Wait for the end of the Windows Estimation Tools. It takes a couple of minutes.



4. Now the window can be closed and go for receiving check logs. To do this, copy the next path, insert it into the Windows Explorer's address bar and go to it: C: \ Windows \ Performance \ Winsat \ DataStore



5. We sort files by date of change and find the XML document with the name "Formal.assessment (Recent) .winsat" list. Before this name must be today's date. We open it - this format supports all popular browsers and a regular text editor "Notepad".



6. We open the search field with the Ctrl + F keys and write there without quotes "WINSPR". In this section, you will see all the estimates that, as you can see, more than in the method 1, but in essence they are simply not grouped by components.



7. The translation of these values ​​is similar to what was considered in detail in the method 1, there you can read about the principle of evaluating each component. Now we only grouped the indicators:
   • "SystemScore" is a general performance rating. The same is accrued according to the smallest value.
   • "MemoryScore" - RAM (RAM).
   • "CPUSCORE" - processor.

     "CPUSUBAGSCORE" is an additional parameter for which the processor speed is estimated.

   • "VideoNCODESCORE" - evaluation of video coding speed.

     "GraphicsScore" - the index of the graphic component of the PC.

     "DX9SUBSCORE" is a separate DIRECTX 9 performance index.

     "DX10SUBSCORE" is a separate DIRECTX 10 performance index.

     "GamingScore" - graphics for games and 3D.

   • "DiskScore" is the main working hard drive to which Windows is installed.

We looked at all available methods for viewing the PC performance index in Windows 10. They have different informativeness and complexity of use, but in any case provide you with the same check results. Thanks to them, you can quickly identify a weak link in the PC configuration and try to establish it functioning in the available ways.
