New discs with which no manipulations have not yet been made, there are neither sections style, nor the type of file system - these parameters are determined by the user when installing the OS.
Method 1: Drive Management
Through the Disk Management System Application, you can instantly get the necessary information about any connected drive.
- Right-click on the "Start" to invoke an alternative menu. Through it, go to "Disk Management".
- As soon as the disk list is formed, click on the PCM on the disc block (it is with it, and not with its partition) at the bottom of the window. Through the context menu, you can immediately see the line "Convert to MBR disk" or "convert to GPT disk". This makes it clear that in the first case, GPT is used, and in the second - MBR.
- Information can be obtained and going to "Properties" through the same context menu.
- Switch to the "Tom" tab and see the section "section style". GPT here is called both "Table with GUID sections."
MBR - "Basic boot record".
Method 2: Command String
This method is universal for viewing information and in the operating system, and in the recovery environment.
- Run the "Command Line", for example, finding it through the search in the "start". In the recovery environment, select the appropriate item from available or press SHIFT + F10.
- Write diskpart and press ENTER.
- Inside the console, this application will start, after which you dial the List Disk and also confirm the Enter key. A list of drives with their parameters in the form of a table will appear. The last "GPT" column allows you to know the information you are interested in. If the string stands as an asterisk, it means that the GPT sections style is used if it is not, therefore, the MBR was previously selected.
You can exit DiskPart using the EXIT command or simply closing the window.
Method 3: third-party software
Since often the sections style must be found to make various manipulations with drives through third-party programs, this information can be viewed there. This software includes Minitool Partition Wizard, Acronis Disk Director and similar applications. Using the example of a screenshot with Aomei Partition Assistant, you can see where this information is located in almost all similar software. If there is no software in your selected software, use the instruction from method 1, since third-party programs are largely repeated by the Disk Management utility interface.
