Before switching directly to connecting the device over a wireless network, make sure that there is access to the Internet, and Wi-Fi is properly functioning. If you have not yet configured the router, enter its model in the search for our site to find a detailed manual, which will help to deal with the task.
Step 1: Authorization in the web interface
Note that to connect a laptop to Wi-Fi through a router, you need to have access to a web interface, input to which can be done from a computer or a laptop already connected to the LAN cable router or wireless network. Then to open the browser and execute authorization in the Internet center, which read in a separate article on our website by reference below.

Step 2: Using the WPS function
Connecting the device to a wireless network is carried out using WPS technology, which is enabled by default in any modern network equipment model. First activate access is required directly in the Internet center of the router itself. We will analyze this operation on the example of two fundamentally different representations of the configuration menu: ASUS and TP-LINK.TP-LINK.
Routers from this company have a practically universal version of the web interface, characteristic of both routers from other manufacturers. Therefore, even if you have other network equipment, the following instruction will definitely be suitable.
- After successful authorization in the Internet center, open the "Wireless Mode" or "Wi-Fi" section.
- There, move to the category "WPS".
- Make sure that this technology is in the on state, and otherwise activate it by clicking on the corresponding button.
- Behind, pay attention to the "Adding a new device" option, opposite which you need to click on the "Add device" button.
- In the case of a laptop, you will need to select the function "Press the WPS button of a new device within two minutes", since the PIN in Windows is not entirely appropriate.
- Immediately after clicking on the "Connect" button, you will have two minutes to confirm the connection in the operating system itself.
- The function is active while the web interface has a red "Connection" indicator, which means that any device on a wireless network can be connected to the router.
No more actions in the TP-LINK Internet Center do not have to perform, and access to WPS will stop immediately after two minutes of finding the network in a state open.
ASUS
Special attention deserve routers from ASUS, since in new ideas of the Internet centers, their appearance is significantly different from many users, however, the principle of connection is practically not changed.
- In the router configuration control menu, find the "Advanced Settings" block and select the "Wireless Network" section.
- There you are interested in the WPS tab.
- Make sure that this feature works, and then in the WPS method string, mark the connection option, where the entire incoming and outgoing traffic is allowed.
- After clicking on the "Start" button, access to the router will automatically open. Browse the list of networks in Windows and connect to the desired one.
Step 3: Connecting in Windows
It remains to be understood only with what needs to be done in the laptop operating system itself: Expand the list of available networks and find the one to which you want to connect. If the WPS is not yet activated, you will be offered to enter the security key. Immediately after enabling the function in the web interface, an open connection will be available.
If you encountered a situation where Wi-Fi on a laptop for some reason does not work, contact a separate instruction on our website, where you will find a detailed description of each existing method of solving the problem.
