How to open the ODT file

ODT (Open Document Text) is a free analogue of DOC and DOCX vordic formats. Let's see which programs exist to open files with the specified extension.

Opening ODT files

Considering that ODT is an analogue of Vords formats, it is not difficult to guess what text processors are able to work with him, first of all, text processors. In addition, the contents of ODT documents can be viewed using some universal viewers.

Method 1: OpenOffice Writer

First of all, let's see how to run ODT in the Writer text processor, which is part of the OpenOffice batch product. For Writer, the specified format is basic in nature, that is, the default program performs the preservation of documents in it.

1. Run the OpenOffice batch product. In the starting window, click on "Open ..." or the combined CTRL + O click.

   

   If you prefer to act through the menu, then click the File item and select "Open ..." from the listing list.

   

2. The use of any of the described actions will lead to the activation of the "Open" tool. Perform in it movement into the directory where the ODT target object is localized. Mark the name and click "Open".



3. The document is displayed in the Writer window.

You can drag a document from Windows Explorer to the OpenOffice starter window. In this case, the left mouse button must be squeezed. This action will also open the ODT file.

There are options for launching ODT and through the internal interface of the Writer application.

1. Following how the Writer window opens, click the file name in the menu. From the deployed list, select "Open ...".

Method 2: LibreOffice Writer

Another free program for which the main ODT format is the Writer application from the LibreOffice office package. Let's see how the documents of the specified format are viewed using this application.

1. After starting the LibreOffice start window, make a click on the "Open File" name.

   

   The above action can be replaced by clicking on the "File" menu, but by selecting the "Open ..." option from the dropping list.

   

   You can also apply the Ctrl + O combination.

2. The launch window will be opened. In it, move to the folder where the document is located. Make it allocation and click on "Open".



3. ODT format file will open in the LibreOffice Writer window.

You can also drag the file from the conductor to the LibreOffice starter window. After that, it will immediately appear in the Writer application window.

As with the previous text processor, LibreOffice also has the ability to run a document via the Writer interface.

1. After launching LibreOffice Writer, click on the "Open" icon in the folder form or make a Ctrl + O combination.

   

   If you prefer to perform actions through the menu, then you can consistently click on the "File" inscription, and then in the unfolding list "Open ...".



2. Any of the proposed actions leads to the launch of the opening window. The manipulation in it was described when the algorithm of action is clarified during the launch of ODT through the starting window.

Method 3: Microsoft Word

Opening documents with the ODT extension also supports the popular Word program from Microsoft Office.

1. After starting the Word, move the "File" tab.



2. Run it click on "Open" in the side menu.

   

   The two above steps can be replaced by simply pressing Ctrl + O.

3. In the Document Open Window, move to the directory where the search file is located. Make it allocation. Run on the Open button.



4. The document will be available for viewing and editing through the WORD interface.

Method 4: Universal Viewer

In addition to text processors, universal viewers can work with the studied format. One of these programs is Universal Viewer.

1. After running Universal Viewer, click on the "Open" icon as a folder or apply the already well-known Ctrl + O combination.

   

   You can also replace these actions to the "File" inscription in the menu and the subsequent move on "Open ...".



2. These actions lead to activation of the Object Opening window. Move to the Winchester directory, which placed the ODT object. After allocating it, click on "Open".



3. The contents of the document will be displayed in the Universal Viewer window.

It is also possible to start ODT by dragging the object from the conductor into the program window.

But it should be taken into account that Universal Viewer is still a universal, and not a specialized program. Therefore, sometimes the specified application supports not all the standard ODT, allows errors when reading. In addition, in contrast to previous programs, you can only view this type of file in Universal Viewer, and not edit the document.

As you can see, ODT format files can be launched using a number of applications. It is best for these purposes to use specialized text processors included in office packages OpenOffice, LibreOffice and Microsoft Office. Moreover, the first two options are even preferable. But, in the extreme case, you can use one of the text or universal viewers, such as Universal Viewer to view the contents.
