How to configure nvidia video card for games

By default, all software for NVIDIA video cards is supplied with the settings that imply the maximum picture quality and the overlay of all Effects supported by the GPU. Such values ​​of the parameters give us a realistic and beautiful image, but at the same time reduce overall performance. For games, where the reaction and speed is not important, such settings will be quite suitable, but for network battles in dynamic scenes, high frames are more important than beautiful landscapes.

As part of this article, let's try to configure the NVIDIA video card in such a way as to squeeze the maximum FPS, while losing a little in quality.

Setting up NVIDIA video card

You can configure the NVIDIA video driver in two ways: manually either automatically. Manual adjustment implies a thin adjustment of the parameters, and automatic eliminates us from the need to "pick up" in the driver and saves time.

Method 1: Manual Setup

For manual configuration of the video card parameters, we will use the software that is installed with the driver. The software is simple: "NVIDIA control panel". You can access the panel from the desktop by clicking on it by PCM and selecting the desired item in the context menu.

1. First of all, find the item "Adjusting the Image Settings with View Image".

   

   Here we switch to the "3D application" setting and press the "Apply" button. By this action, we include the ability to manage quality and productivity directly by the program that uses the video card at the moment.

   

2. Now you can go to the global settings of the parameters. To do this, go to the "Manage 3D Parameters" section.

   

   On the Global Parameters tab, we see a long list of settings. About them and talk more.

   

   • "Anisotropic filtering" allows you to improve the quality of drawing textures on various distorted or located at a large angle to the observer surfaces. Since "beautifulness" do not interest us, AF turn off (off). This is done by selecting the appropriate value in the drop-down list opposite the parameter, in the right column.

     

   • CUDA is a special NVIDIA technology that allows you to use a graphics processor in the calculations. It helps to increase the overall computing power of the system. For this parameter, set the value "All".
   • "V-SYNC" or "Vertical Synchronization" allows you to eliminate breaks and twitching the image, making a picture more smooth, while the general frame is reduced (FPS). Here the choice is yours, since the "V-Sync" enabled slightly reduces performance and can be left included.
   • "Dark background lighting" gives the scenes more realism, reducing the brightness of objects to which the shadow falls. In our case, this parameter can be turned off, since with high dynamics of the game we do not notice this effect.
   • "The maximum value of pre-trained personnel." This option "causes" the processor to determine a certain amount of frames for the video card is not in idle state. With a weak processor, the value is better to lower up to 1, if the CPU is quite powerful, it is recommended to select the number 3. The higher the value, the less time the GPU is "waiting for" its footage.
   • "Stream optimization" defines the number of graphics processors used by the game. Here we leave the default value (auto).
   • Next, you should turn off the four parameters responsible for smoothing: "Gamma Correction", "Parameters", "Transparency" and "Mode".
   • Triple buffering works only when the "vertical synchronization" is enabled, slightly increasing productivity, but increasing the load on the memory chips. Disconnect if you do not use "V-SYNC".
   • The following parameter - "Filtering textures - anisotropic optimization on the sample" allows, slightly reducing the picture quality, increase productivity. Enable or do not include the option, decide for yourself. If the goal is the maximum FPS, then select the value "On".
3. Upon completion of all settings, click on the "Apply" button. Now these global parameters can be transferred to any program (game). To do this, go to the "Software Settings" tab and select the desired application in the drop-down list (1).

   If there is no game, we click on the "Add" button and looking for the appropriate executable file on the disk, for example, "worldoftanks.exe". The toy is added to the list and for it we set all the settings to the "Use the Global Parameter" position. Do not forget to click on the "Apply" button.

   

According to observations, this approach allows you to increase productivity in some games up to 30%.

Method 2: Automatic Setup

Automatic configuration of the NVIDIA video card for games can be implemented in branded software, also supplied with current drivers. Called NVIDIA GeForce Experience software. This method is available only if you use licensed games. For "pirates" and "repacks", the function does not work.

1. You can run the program from the Windows Treara, clicking on its PCM icon and selecting the appropriate item in the menu that opens.

   

2. After the actions above will open a window with all sorts of settings. We are interested in the "Games" tab. In order for the program to find all our toys that can be optimized, click on the update icon.

   

3. In the created list, you must select the game that we want to open with automatically configured parameters and click on the "Optimize" button, after which you need to run.

   

By performing these actions in the NVIDIA GeForce Experience, we inform the video driver as optimized settings that are suitable for a specific game.
