One of the well-known formats for working with spreadsheets that meet the requirements of our time is XLS. Therefore, the task of converting other spreadsheet formats, including an open ODS, in XLS becomes relevant.
Methods converting
Despite a sufficient large number of office packages, few of them support the conversion of ODS in XLS. Basically, this purpose uses online services. However, this article discusses special programs.Method 1: OpenOffice Calc
It can be said that Calc is one of these applications for which the ODS format is native. This program goes to the OpenOffice package.
- To begin with, run the program. Then open the ODS file
- In the "File" menu, highlight the "Save As" string.
- The save folder selection window opens. Move to the directory in which you want to save, and then edit the file name (if necessary) and specify the XLS output format. Next, click "Save".

Method 2: LibreOffice Calc
Another open tabular processor that is capable of converting ODS in XLS is CALC, which is part of the LibreOffice package.
- Run the application. Then you need to open the ODS file.
- To convert clicking sequentially on the "File" and "Save As" buttons.
- In the window that opens, you first need to go to the folder where you wish to keep the result. After that, you need to enter the name of the object and select the XLS type. Click on "Save".
Click "Use Microsoft Excel 97-2003" format.
Method 3: Excel
Excel is the most functional program for editing spreadsheets. Can perform ODS conversion to XLS, and back.
- After starting, open the source table.
- Being in Excel, click on the "File", and then to "save as". In the tab that opens, we alternately select "this computer" and "Current Folder". To save in another folder, click on the "Overview" and select the desired directory.
- The conductor window is started. You need to select a folder to save, enter the file name and select the XLS format. Then I click on "save".

The disadvantage of this method is that the application is provided as part of the MS Office package by a paid subscription. Due to the fact that the latter has several programs, its cost is high enough.
As the review showed, there are only two free programs that are capable of converting ODS in XLS. At the same time, such a small amount of converters is associated with certain licenses of XLS format.
