The computer does not turn on with the power button

Check the on button

In most situations, this problem is caused by hardware problems in the work of the computer's power button itself, so the first thing is to check it out.

1. Disconnect the PC from the power supply, then remove the side cover from the housing.
2. Find on the motherboard the contacts of the front panel connection - the easiest way to see where the corresponding wires are connected. For diagnostics, they need to be disconnected.
3. The required contacts are called "Power SWITCH" (otherwise "Power SW") - they are signed both on the plug and on the board itself.

   

   Attention! Performing further actions may damage the fee, so do it at your own risk!

   The check is the manual closure of the corresponding contacts - for example, with the help of a clips, tweezers, or any other metal object of suitable sizes.



4. Connect the computer to the power supply and close the contacts. If the reaction to turn on (the fans of the cooling system of the processor and the graphics card are twisted), the fault lies in the button that will be easier to replace. If nothing happens - probably the motherboard is broken and needs to be repaired.
5. There are cases when the problem under consideration may be associated with the CMOS battery: some manufacturers are embedded in the fee system, which does not allow to start if there is no backup power. Try replacing the corresponding item and check the reaction to the inclusion.

Diagnostics of the power supply

In some cases, the source of the problem under consideration is the PC power supply - it is also worth checking it. Procedure Next:

1. First of all, check if it is turned off. The fact is that most of the modern solutions are equipped with switches: if it is in the "OFF" position, the energy does not go to the fee and, therefore, there is no reaction to pressing the power button.



2. If the problem is observed with an active power supply, do not do without disassembling it from the case: Disconnect the device from electricity, disconnect all the wires running on the board and the periphery, unscrew the fastening screws and carefully get out of the element.



3. Now check if it is active. Take a small piece of the wire of a suitable thickness, clean the ends from the insulation and insert one into the hole of the main plug (16 or 24-pin) corresponding to the green contact, and the second is the corresponding black one. Then plug the power supply and turn on the block - if it has earned (it is heard the operation of its own cooling system), the problem is not in it. Otherwise, you encountered a malfunction.

   Typical malfunction of BP are swollen capacitors, especially if the device is 5 years or more. Users with basic skills of soldering are able to replace the elements failed independently, but we recommend contacting the service center or ask for help from more experienced friends.

4. Also in the power supply may fail the power transistors or transformer. It is more difficult to diagnose this problem: either a multimeter, or specialized equipment like a thermal imager. Replacing the power elements is no different from the recipient of the capacitors, while the transformer is usually unprofitable, and it is easier to acquire a new BP.

Inspection cables

Another reason, even if not so widespread as previous, are malfunction with the power cable. The diagnostic method is simple: it is enough to use the obviously working wire - for example, from the monitor, another computer or UPS.

If the PC is running with a workable cable, simply replace faulty. In the absence of changes, the reason is something else - use the instructions above.
