Thanks to the joystick, you can easily turn your computer or laptop into a gaming console. This device will allow you to fully enjoy your favorite games sitting in a convenient place. In addition, thanks to certain utilities, using the controller, you can produce various actions in the operating system itself. Of course, the keyboard and mouse joystick will not replace, but sometimes such functionality can be useful.

In order for the device is correctly determined by the system and it is possible to program keys, you need to install drivers for the controller. It is about this that we will tell in our today's lesson. We will teach you to install software for the Xbox 360 joystick.

Individual ways of connecting the joystick

This section we break into several parts. Each of them will describe the process of searching and installing drivers for a specific OS and type of controller. So, let's begin.

Connecting a wired controller on Windows 7

By default, with a joystick in the kit always goes the disk on which everything you need is stored. If for some reasons you do not have this disk - do not be mistaken. There is another way to install the necessary drivers. To do this, you need to perform the following steps.

We check that the joystick is not connected to a computer or laptop.
We go to the official page loading for the Xbox 360 gamepad.
Shut down the page down until you see the "downloads" section, which is noted in the screenshot below. Click on this inscription.
In this section you can download the user manual and the necessary drivers. To do this, you must first choose the version of the operating system and the bit in the drop-down menu on the right side of the page.

After that you can change the language at will. You can do this in the next drop-down menu. Please note that the list does not have Russian. Therefore, we advise you to leave English by default, in order to avoid difficulties during installation.

After all the actions described, you need to click on the link with the name of the software, which is below the OS and Language Sick Line.
As a result, loading the required driver will begin. At the end of the download process, you must start this very file.
If you have a security warning window when you start it, click the "Run" or "Run" button in this window.

After the unpacking process, which will last literally a few seconds, you will see the main program window with a greeting and license agreement. If you wish, read the information, after which we put a tick opposite the "I Accept this Agreement" string and press the "Next" button.

Now you need to wait a bit until the utility sets everything you need to your computer or laptop.

Now you will see the window in which the result of the installation will be indicated. If everything goes without errors, the window shown in the image below will appear.

After that, just click the "FINISH" button. Now you can only connect the joystick and you can fully use it.

To check and configure the gamepad, you can perform the following steps.

Press the combination with the "Windows" and "R" button on the keyboard.
In the window that appears, enter the joy.cpl command and click "ENTER".
As a result, you will see the window in the list of which should be your Xbox 360 controller. In this window you can see the status of your gamepad, as well as to spend it test and setting up. To do this, click the "Properties" or "Properties" button at the bottom of the window.

Using a wired joystick on Windows 8 and 8.1

Loading the joystick drivers for Windows 8 and 8.1 is practically no different from the process described above. You also need to download in this case the driver for Windows 7, while observing the discharge of the OS. The difference will be only in the way the installation file itself is launched. That's what needs to be done.

When you download the driver installation file, click on it with the right mouse button and select the "Properties" string in the context menu.
In the window that opens, go to the Compatibility tab, which is at the very top. In this section you need to mark the "Run a program in compatibility mode" checkbox.
As a result, it will be an active menu located under the indicated inscription. From the drop-down list, select the "Windows 7" string.
Now simply press the "Apply" or "OK" button in this window.

It remains to simply start the installation file and perform the same actions that are described in the Joystick Connection Guide on Windows 7.

Installing a wired gamepad on Windows 10

For owners of Windows 10, the installation for the Xbox 360 joystick is the easiest. The fact is that the drivers for the specified gamepad are not installed and not at all. All the necessary software default is integrated into this operating system. You only need to connect the joystick into a USB connector and enjoy your favorite game. If you have difficulty and after connecting the device, nothing happens, you need to do the following.

Press the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the desktop.
We go to the "Parameters" section by clicking in the window that opens the string with the corresponding name.

Now go to the "Update and Security" section.

As a result, you will be taken to the page where you need to click the "Checking for Updates" button.

If updates are detected by the system, it will install them automatically. Since the Xbox gamepad drivers are integrated into Windows 10, then in most cases the problem with the joystick is solved by the banal update of the OS.

Connecting a wireless device

The process of connecting a wireless gamepad is somewhat different from those described above. The fact is that first it is necessary to connect to a computer or a receiver laptop. And the wireless joystick will be connected in the future. Therefore, in this case, we need to install software for the receiver itself. In some cases, the device is correctly determined by the driver and installation of the drivers is not required. Nevertheless, there are situations when the software has to be installed manually. That's what you need to do.

Connect the receiver to the USB connector of your laptop or computer.
Now go to the Microsoft website, where we will search for the necessary drivers.
On this page you need to find a search field and an item with a selection of device type. Fill the field these as shown in the image below.

Slightly below these lines you will see the search results. You must find the name of your wireless device in the list and click on it.

You will find yourself on the boot page for the selected controller. Let's go a bit down the page until I see the "downloads" section. Go to this tab.
After that, you will need to specify the version of your OS, its discharge and driver language. All exactly as in previous methods. After that, click on the link in the form of the name of the software.
After that, you need to wait for the download and install software. The installation process itself is similar to that described when the wired controller is connected.
In the case of a wireless device, all the same rules are valid: if you have Windows 8 or 8.1, we use the compatibility mode if Windows 10 is checking the availability of updates, since the driver may not need to be needed at all.
When the receiver will be correctly identified by the system, you must press the appropriate power buttons on the receiver and the joystick itself. If everything was done, the connection will be installed. This will be evidenced by the included green indicator on both devices.
