Installing Windows for this disc is impossible (solution)

Unable to install Windows to this disk
In this instruction, it is reported in detail about what to do if the Windows installation is reported to you that it is impossible to install Windows into the disk section, and in details - "Installing Windows to this disc is not possible. Perhaps the computer equipment does not support the boot from this disk. Make sure that the controller of this disk is included in the computer's BIOS menu. Similar errors and ways to fix them: Installing the disk is not possible, the selected disk has a GPT sections style, the installation on this disk is not possible, the MBR partition table is located on the selected disk, we failed to create a new or find an existing section when installing Windows 10.

If you still choose this section and click "Next" in the Installation Program, you will see an error reporting that we could not create a new one or find an existing section with a proposal to view additional information in the installation program log files. Below will be described how to correct such an error (which can occur in Windows 10 installation programs - Windows 7).

As the users are increasingly on computers and laptops, there is a variety of partition tables on disks (GPT and MBR), HDD operation modes (AHCI and IDE) and download types (EFI and LEGACY), and errors are raised when installing Windows 10, 8 or Windows 7 caused by these parameters. The case described is just one of these errors.

Note: If the message that the installation on the disk is not allowed to be accompanied by an error information 0x80300002 or the text "Perhaps this disk will soon fail" - this may be caused by a poor disk connections or SATA cables, as well as damage to the drive itself or cables. This case is not considered in the current material.

Fixing the error "Installing on this disc is not possible" using the BIOS settings (UEFI)

Most often, the specified error occurs when Windows 7 is installed on old computers with BIOS and LEGACY loading, in cases where the BIOS in the SATA device parameters (i.e. hard disk) is enabled AHCI mode (or any RAID modes, SCSI ).

Error installing Windows to this hard disk is not possible

Solution in this particular case - go to the BIOS parameters and change the hard disk mode on the IDE. As a rule, this is done somewhere in the Integrated Peripherals section - SATA MODE BIOS settings (several examples in the screenshot).

Enable IDE mode for SATA in BIOS

But even if you do not have a "old" computer or laptop, this option can also work. If you install Windows 10 or 8, then instead of incorporating the IDE mode, I recommend:

  1. Enable EFI boot in UEFI (if it is supported).
  2. Boot from the installation drive (flash drive) and try the installation.

True, in this option, you can meet another error type, in the text of which will be reported that the MBR partition table is located on the selected disk (the correction instructions are mentioned at the beginning of this article).

Why this happens and I myself did not fully understand (because the AHCI driver is included in the images of Windows 7 and higher). Moreover, I was able to reproduce the error and to install Windows 10 (screenshots just from there) - just changing the disk controller with IDE to SCSI for the Hyper-V virtual machine "first generation" (i.e. with bios).

Failed to find or create a section when installing Windows

Whether the specified error will appear when the EFI-download and installation on the IDE mode will not be checked, but I admit this one (in this case, we try to enable AHCI for SATA disks in UEFI).

Also, in the context of the described situation, the material may be useful: how to enable AHCI mode after installing Windows 10 (for the previous OS, everything is similar).

Third Party Drivers AHCI Disc Controller, SCSI, RAID

In some cases, the problem is caused by the specificity of the user's equipment. The most common option is the presence of SSD caching on a laptop, multi-disc configurations, RAID arrays and SCSI cards.

This topic is affected by me in the article Windows does not see the hard disk when installing, and the essence comes down to the fact that if you have reason to assume that the features of the equipment are the cause of the "Installing Windows Installation Not This Disk", the first thing to go to The official website of the manufacturer of the laptop or motherboard, and see, and whether there are some drivers there (usually represented as an archive, not installer) for SATA devices.

If there is - load, unpack the files on the USB flash drive (there are usually in and sys. Driver files are usually present), and in the section selection window for installing Windows, click "Download Driver" and specify the path to the driver file. And after its installation, it becomes possible and installing the system to the selected hard drive.

Installing the SATA driver when installing Windows

If the proposed solutions do not help, write comments, we will try to figure it out (only refer to the model of the laptop or motherboard, as well as which OS and from which drive is set).
